ABOUT JOHN
I studied at Bournville School of Art amidst the aroma of chocolate from the nearby Cadbury's works, then in Manchester under Tony Ross, before debuting as a children's book illustrator in London. A fascination with Japanese art then took me to Tokyo, where I lived for many years, seeking the connection between Ukiyo-e and Ultraman. In Japan I illustrated for a wide variety of clients from advertising to editorial, and children's books for publishers in East and West. Now dividing my time between Japan and the UK, I spend my time writing, drawing, and annoying my cat.
For some years I stood on the international committee of the Japan Graphic Designers Association (JAGDA). I'm a long time volunteer for the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), and am a member of the Society of Authors (SOA).
ジョン・シェリーについて
イギリス、バーミンガム生まれ。ボーンビル・スクール・オブ・アート、マンチェスター ポリテクニックでイラストレーションを専攻。ロンドンで児童書イラストレーターとして活動を開始しして、ファサードアートスタジオを設立しました。その後、長年東京で在住。日本で広告イラストで注目を浴びて、テレビコマーシャルからキャラクターグッズまで多数制作。絵本は日本、イギリスをはじめ、アメリカ、ヨーロッパ各国でも出版されている。現在、日本とイギリスで時間を分けています。
数年間、JAGDAの国際員会でヴォランテイアしました。児童書の作家とイラストレーター協会 SCBWI の長年の主催者であり、作家協会 Society of Authors の会員です。
